Since 1996, Adventure Ireland has been helping faculty members put together student trips that fulfill General Education requirements.
All faculty-led trips are designed and taught by our director, Niamh Hamill B.Ed and M.A., who has 20 years’ teaching experience and is currently a Ph.D candidate in Irish-American Culture at Drew University in New Jersey. Niamh works with the faculty organizer to put together a program perfectly suited for that specific group.
These trips are not only for college students. Any clubs, societies, vacation groups, or large family groups are welcome! Whether you need a full detailed study program or accommodations and a day trip, Adventure Ireland has all the tools to create the best experience for your group.
This program is ideal for students and faculty in sports, fitness and health related fields that would like to incorporate sports (surfing, kayaking, Gaelic sports, lifeguarding, hillwalking and other adventure activities) into a study-abroad course. Though this program is focused on sports, it also has a cultural element – students take day trips to places of historical significance and participate in several culture classes.
Bundoran is located beside Yeats County, close to the W. B. Yeats’ grave at Drumcliff and the magnificant Glencar, Lissadell, Inisfree, and Ben Bulben which were associated with W. B. and Jack Yeats. The West of Ireland provides an ideal setting for studies in Anglo-Irish literature and we focus our classes and field trips around authors such as Brian Friel, Patrick Kavanagh and Seamus Heaney. We combine our literary studies with film studies and Irish art and music.
History, Culture & Politics Programs
Irish political history, especially in recent years, is fascinating. Students on this trip will visit Belfast, Stormont, Derry City, Enniskillen, and the Northern Ireland border towns to gain a deeper understanding of Irish history and politics. Classes in political and social history can be arranged and enhanced with local and well-known guest speakers.
What They Say About Us ……
“I can’t say enough great things about the Donegal Adventure Centre! In March 2010, I brought ten students to Ireland to both understand and experience Irish sporting culture. We spent time in Dublin and Belfast, but our best experience of all was with Niamh and her wonderful staff at the DAC in Bundoran. We surfed, we visited Yeats country, we bonded through the high ropes course, and more”.
“All of this while staying in excellent accommodations and enjoying great meals. My students came back from Ireland with lots to tell friends . but the story always seems to begin in Bundoran! I would recommend the DAC and Niamh to anyone at anytime. What’s my highest recommendation? It’s that without a doubt, I will continue to bring groups back in the future”.

“A group of seventeen Longwood University students and their professors from Virginia spent the New Year Holiday at the Adventure Centre. As the Irish would say, we had a “craic” of a time…rock climbing, ropes course, touring Bundoran and the surrounding areas and admiring the surfers along the coast. Friendly, fun and experienced staff, delicious and well prepared meals, and delightful hostel accommodations. We WILL come again!”
