This trip is for people with a taste for adventure, outdoor sports, Irish culture, music and ‘craic’.

You can do a ten week long semester programme in Fall 2007 or Spring 2008

Adventure Ireland Semester

Fall
September 10th November 24th 2007 (10 weeks)
Spring
February 4th- April 11th 2008 (10 weeks)

The Program is made up of three strands:

Outdoor Instructor + Internship + Culture

O utdoor Instructor

You are going to train as an outdoor instructor: You will surf, climb, paddle and skate: you’ll train to become a fully qualified beach lifeguard, a surf coach and you will learn the skills to teach these sports to children and teenagers.

You will do courses in Child Protection, First Aid, training in leadership skills and outdoor recreation, training in kayak, canoe, climbing and other outdoor pursuits and you will gain experience in being part of a busy outdoor surf school and Adventure Centre.
Three days per week, the focus is on outdoor activities such as surfing, canoeing, climbing, kayaking & skateboarding.

Irish Culture

We also want you to learn more about Ireland. One day a week, you will participate in cultural, historical and Gaelic workshops, learning and visiting places of historical & cultural interest. If you have specific areas of interest in Irish history, language, music, culture, we will assist you to research in this area.

Internship

One day a week, you will work as an intern in a local business.
This is to help you get involved with local life, and lose your ‘tourist’ identity.
Your weekends are free to enjoy Donegal, or travel to other parts of Ireland or Europe.

Who is this programme for?

Anyone over the age of 18 who would like to spend some time living in Ireland: usual age group is 18-30 years. You like Ireland, outdoor activities, working with kids and meeting other people.

You want to get some qualifications, some work experience, you want to experience

a different culture, make new friends and do something different.

You (or your parents) want a degree of structure to your travels abroad, you want to get something out of your time away. You want to immerse yourself in a culture, not just look at it from the outside.
