SUMMER FOR TEENS IN IRELAND

Adventure Ireland invite teens to join us in Ireland for Summer Camp. We welcome high school kids of Irish background, or those just interested in Irish Culture, an international experience, and a warm and friendly camp, in a remarkably beautiful location. You will meet other teens from all over the USA, Europe and Ireland. You will enjoy the very best of care, teaching, instruction and friendliness of our staff here, who have been running Summer Camp since 1996. Parents will enjoy plenty of assistance with arranging travel, contacting past alumni & parents, assurances about the high quality and integrity of Adventure Ireland, easy and helpful information about all that will happen. This is a wonderful and lifechanging experience for every camper, and parents...warning! It may be their first trip to Ireland, but not their last! And you will probably fall in love with Ireland too :)

We have two summer camps, one in July and one in August.

The July camp includes three weeks of cultural studies, Irish history & language, music & arts, outdoor adventure, travel around Ireland, meeting teens from all over the world, and enjoying the unique and friendly atmosphere of Ireland. It will suit students who are interested in some classroom work on Irish topics, including Irish History, Celtic Ireland, St. Patrick, Famine and Emigration, Rebellion and Independence, Irish Literature, Irish Music, Arts and Gaelic Sports. It will also include some time spent in Dublin City and Southern Ireland, including visits to The Burren, The Cliffs of Moher, Killarney National Park and Connemara National Park. This program is happily integrated with fun stuff too, including surfing (we are located in Ireland’s most famous surf area), adventure activities, song & dance, cinema and entertainment.

The August camp has less emphasis on cultural studies and more time spent on outdoor activities especially surfing in Ireland. It will appeal to students who are really interested in the unique experience of surfing, climbing, kayaking & being very active while enjoying the friendly culture in Ireland. The August camp is fully based in our Donegal Campus.

References and testimonials from parents and participants are available. Adventure Ireland is approved by the Irish Tourist Board, The Irish American Cultural Institute, North West Tourism & Donegal Tourism. Directors Niamh Hamill and Collie Mac Phaidin are winners of the Irish Tourist Board’s ‘Welcome Ireland’ Award. Many of our campers have gone on to take Irish Studies courses in College, many have returned many times, and every single participant since 1996 has loved the experience. We are experts at making sure that each individual feels safe, welcome and interested in their experience. We are the only Irish summercamp that is located and run by a full-time organisation that works with teens all year round. We are the only Irish summercamp that is based fully in Ireland, with Irish staff and teachers. We insist that we offer an authentic and rich experience of Ireland, delivered by local experts, teachers and leaders who live here.

I just spoke to Augie who made it safely to the second leg of his Summer vacation. He flew to Boston today and is on his way north to Maine with his godmother and her family. Augie called me from the airport before boarding his plane and just said, "Mom, camp was fine, in fact, it was excellent. I'm returning next year and this time for three weeks!" Well, looks like Augie's Summer plans are already made. Makes my life easy! Collie, I'd like to thank you and the entire staff for helping a young man gain confidence in himself and for making his stay in Ireland so special.

I spent ten days in Bundoran at the DAC with Adventure ireland, and it was an unbelievable experience. Not only was I encouraged to push past boundaries physically, trying new activities from cliff jumping to Gaelic football, I was shown the value in leaving my comfort zone socially. I met other kids my age from all over Europe, and had the most memorable experiences, from teaching them Irish dance to learning their languages. I continue to stay in touch with some even two years later, and still meet up with some of the other Americans I roomed with. I learned about everything from Queen Maedbh's burial to the importance of God in the Irish language, and from the tune of "Las Vegas in the Hills of Donegal" to how to ride down the line. As I start my first year at university, two years later, I still find myself telling stories of my experiences at the DAC, as well as drawing on different things I learned there. I can't promise that Bundoran will be my next travel destination, but I know that I will be back; could I choose to relive any part of my life, it would be the ten days I spent there.
